important personal canon.
it is my belief that house tyrell is based off the capetian dynasty of france, therefore, making the reach also based on france. the real-life royal house of bourbon were originally vassals of the royal family, much like the tyrells were for the gardeners, and then they eventually took over when the old family died out. the real life royal house of valois were notorious schemers that preferred intrigue to war despite having the military and financial strength for it, much like the tyrells again. furthermore, the reach is shown to have significant ties to the faith of the seven, and a heavy culture of chivalry compared to the other kingdoms, like france did with chivalry and does still with catholicism. furthermore, the reach is considered to be the place that is the height of fashion and art, and this was significantly so also for the house of bourbon, whose fashion and art influence spread over europe and england like wildfire. you could make a case for the war or likely upcoming war between house tyrell and house lannister as resembling the 100 years war between house valois and house lancaster of england, since the lannisters appear to be based on house lancaster. finally, there's the obvious case of the war of the roses comparison, the civil war between houses lancaster and york for the throne of england. but house tyrell doesn't fit the bill for house york, so it feels more inspired than anything rather than fully based...bearing all this information in mind, I do like to portray those from the reach as having french-based accents. they don't speak a different language apart from regional slang etc, but they sound distinctively different from the other kingdoms around them.
loras is a pretty typical man. he likes to fight, fuck, party, play sports, hunt, play stupid practical jokes, and see the occasional bawdy play. he doesn't care for fashion or books or politics despite being born and mostly raised in the reach, where those things are extremely popular parts of culture. he's just out in westeros living his dumb guys life...until he's suddenly not.
loras is young in the earlier books, yes. but he is not an unseasoned warrior. before the series, he had spent a good amount of time in the company of his many uncles and other males relatives, sorting out civil disruptions, taking out bandits and all sorts in the reach and out. loras hasn't permanently lived in highgarden since he was 8, and the idea of him being one of his generations greatest isn't unfounded. he was afforded this freedom being the third son as opposed to garlan.
once the shock and temporary psychosis of renly's death wears off. loras does not initially believe that brienne had anything to do with renly's death. loras would have known her for some years by this point, being that he would've met her previously in the stormlands more than once. he's very much aware of brienne's feelings towards renly, but is quiet on the matter unless it is to renly himself. he's actually more inclined to believe that catelyn "the she wolf" stark had something to do with the death more than brienne did. he only comes to consider that brienne might be the killer later because the people around him try to convince him so. but after their chat at kings landing, he knows she did not do it.
loras was part of the plan to murder joffrey. he wanted joff dead for marg's sake. though he was not the actual poisoner. his job was to help sow the idea that sansa was the poisoner.
the knight of flowers moniker was concocted by mace tyrell before loras was even knighted, and claimed that loras too, liked the title, which wasn't true. he didn't know if its existence until someone called him it to his face when he returned to the reach knighted. mace wanted to use his youngest and most popular son in a grand pr move to boost his own popularity by creating the westeros equivalent of harry styles. loras actually loathes the moniker and is prone to anger when it's used against him in a manor to mock his masculinity. he plays along with it for the most part in front of other nobles, but he will visibly be displeased.
loras has never tried to hide his sexuality. there's no laws or taboo against it in westeros that is mentioned. being gay just has no use to the nobility, hence the minor frowning upon it. he won't deny being gay if someone asks him.
loras did not support renly marrying his sister. the idea of his sister and boyfriend together disgusts the hell out of him, and he detested the burden it put on margaery. loras and renly's relationship sours at this point, and I don't think they ever fully reconcile before renly dies.
considering the idea that house tyrell / the reach is modelled after a french dynasty / france that were / is devoutly catholic. the faith of the seven is very domineering in the reach, which is further evidenced in asoiaf lore. loras is a devout follower of the warrior, and as such, he often visits septs for prayer and to light candles for the warrior and makes offerings to them.

THE GRAND TYRELL CONSPIRACY... here is a complete and VERY long rundown of the theory. but the short version is that the tyrell's have been playing a long game to weaken cersei's power and eliminate her. what this means for loras is that he's not dying or injured on dragonstone, and has in fact taken command of redwine and royal ship, taking them to oldtown to fight off the ironborn and euron. plus, if he is away from cersei's side, he will not need to physically defend her in the future, if someone were to attempt an assassination. i suggest reading the link. it explains it better than me.

loras is a part of aegon's kings guard, since that's his canon role anyway. obviously, this puts the tyrells as team green during the dance as they would be anyway since they're related to the hightowers. since grrm hasn't written a Hightower family tree in asoiaf that stretches back to the dance, I will say that Alerie Hightower, Loras' mother, was descended from Otto's brother rather than from Otto. Thus making Alerie the cousin of Alicent & Gwayne, and that making Loras, Marg, Willas and Garlan SECOND cousins to Aegon, Aemond, Daeron, Heleana, Alicent and Gwayne.

loras is a wealthy ( nepo baby ) frenchman, living in paris. he's a professional athlete, specialising in the triathlon at an Olympic level. when he's not competing, he's a brand ambassador as well as a model. aside from that, he's living his best life where everyone isn't dead or dying. often, he splits his time between London and Paris, the former being where his family is based.
